No sooner is the bedroom door shut than I toss the phone onto my dresser like it’s burning my fingers to hold it. Way to go, self. Way to make things awkward. Chance latches onto me from behind. His icy arms come around my neck and he hangs there, burrowing his face against my back.
My guest this week is the talented Kelley York, whose latest novel Made of Stars was released by Entangled Teen in October of last year. She has kindly stopped by to talk a little about her book, as well as share some of her quirks, her best piece of writing advice, and more.
I’m so glad I picked up this novel. Every bit as gritty and complex as the back cover promised, Made of Stars takes place during one fateful winter, and unravels the tangled emotions that bind a brother and sister to the broken boy they love. Kelley York explores a whole host of issues in this story—friendship, sexuality, domestic abuse—and all in a style that is as understated as it is poignant.
When eighteen-year-old Hunter Jackson and his half sister, Ashlin, return to their dad’s for the first winter in years, they expect everything to be just like the warmer months they’d spent there as kids. And it is—at first. But Chance, the charismatic and adventurous boy who made their summers epic, is harboring deep secrets. Secrets that are quickly spiraling into something else entirely.
